Cozy and Fun Kitchen Projects

When I'm not knee deep in piles of laundry or drywall dust, I might be making something fun like....

A "berry" red arrangement from my backyard to my window sill......

Or a cozy paper pennant to go above my kitchen sink.....

Or glittered letter magnets for my kitchen island....

Don't you agree that every once in a while, a girl just has to stop the world and...

What have you creative souls made lately? Please share and inspire me!

We made a chalkboard that goes the full length of the side of the refridgerator, a little skirt to replace the two cabinet doors under the sink, new chairpads for our dining room chairs, and new chairpads for our barstools. We've been having lots of fun with our little projects indoors, but we are so ready to get outside and dig in the dirt!

I love that penant Kim. Let's see, we've had to really tighten our $$$ belts and I've not extra to go out and spend but I've needed accessories and artwork for my kitchen (which is slowly getting it's facelift), so I took two oak frames, I had, sprayed them black, and since my house was built in 1954, I printed out a list of what things cost back them, added some vintage-y clip art, framed it and voila! Artwork. I also printed out a copy of a menu of an old coffee shop that used to be here and what the prices were back in the 50s, framed that and they hang together.

Beth, I saw your chalkboard - how neat! I want a chalkboard for my kitchen, too...have the special paint for it but haven't gotten around to it yet! I love your dining room set - everything is looking great it and it looks like you're having a lot of fun making your house a home!

Rechelle, what a neat idea about printing out the cost of things from 1950's and adding vintage clip art and framing it! The other coffee shop menu sounds pretty as well...I looked for these project on your blog - is it up yet...would love to see!

Thanks to you all for the compliments - these were lots of fun to make:)

I just love your kitchen. I had painted my cabinets a few years ago, (they were the lovely frosted oak of the 90's) and I want to paint them again. I was going to go the safe white route but every time I see your red cabinets I think "That is just what I want." Did it take a deep breath or did you just go for it?

Thanks bunches, Flippery!

It's funny because I never had to even think about what color I wanted to paint my cabinets. I *knew* I wanted them red, lol. Now picking the *right* shade of red was a different story - so hard!

There are several things that I regret about our remodel already - our countertops that I already want to replace when we have the budget, *not* replacing the older drafty kitchen window above the sink when we added the new window to the dining area, and another thing or two - but the red cabinets - I'm thrilled with them every day and know it's one thing that I got right, hehe!

Thanks Kim. I love my new chalkboard. I've been having so much fun writing little messages to my kids and husband every day. My husband cut a piece of smooth plywood to fit the side of the refridgerator, then hung it up using sticky back velcro(just in case I change my mind), then I did the painting. It was actually a very easy and inexpensive project that we had finished in less than a day. I keep the chalk in that little basket on top of the fridge. P.S. I love the little magnets on the island. I hope to have a little island in my kitchen some day, and I think I will have to steal that cute idea. :) Thanks for all your great inspiration, Kim!

I absolutely love your kitchen!!! The red cabinets are fabulous. I have oak cabinets and HATE them and want to paint the black and distress them but I can't quite get up the nerve. I am afraid they will look like an amateur did them. Thanks for the inspiration. Now maybe I can do it!!

HI Kim.
I have it posted. I've since "centered" the 50s cost list so that it looks much better. It's hanging on the wall space to the side of my red shuttered bi-folds. You can take a peek now :0).
Hope you're enjoying your day!

Wow your kitchen is so refreshing and comfortable looking. I love it. The red cabinets are beautiful. Not sure I'd ever be brave enough to attempt it. Afraid I'd pick the wrong red or something. I just need to step out of my comfort zone. Love the Nest banner. You need to sell those.

Oh it's all beautiful. Particularly those alphas on your island . . . love 'em. I'm knee deep in unpacking and organizing the apartment I just moved into, but I've been stopping to create new digital graphics along the way as well. Girl's gotta play sometimes . . . ♥
