Coming to You Live From My Floor
She has risen! Well, not really. As the title suggests, I'm currently sitting on the floor (of what was once Sydney's room) with the keyboard in my lap, the monitor on the floor in front of me. We've moved all the computer things in here but that's just about it. Our desk, which I finally stained the other day after 6 years of using it "unfinished", is still in the sunroom. But truth be told, I'm really liking being down on the floor, lol. I don't take my computer nearly as seriously:)
What have I been doing? You name it, I've done it!!! We *finally* had our yardsale on Friday and Saturday. I've been preparing for it forever! I repainted a lot of the old furniture that we were going to sell and really shabby chic'ed it up. Nearly every moment was spent trying to make sure everything was ready on time. I went to bed at 3 am Friday morning and then got up again at 5 am to set up for the yard sale. And of course, it was raining and storming, ugh! It's a good thing we had gotten most of our garage cleaned out so we were able to set up in there. All of our hard work paid off. We sold about $750 worth of stuff and then sent the rest of it to Goodwill. Lol, it will be a very long time before we have enough stuff to have a yard sale again! BUT, Jeff told me that if I enjoyed fixing up old furniture and making shabby accessories, then he would support me and help me and we could work on building an inventory to sell at the flea market one of these months. I think it's a cool idea. A couple of years ago, we had bought a wooden headboard and footboard at a yardsale for $5. Before our yardsale, we painted it a creamy white color and sold it for $25. Another example, we bought a couple of tables at a yard sale last year for $5 each. These were really heavy wooden farmhouse style tables, but the legs were loose. We brought them home and tightened the legs, and then last week painted them a nice fresh white and added oil-rubbed bronze knobs. We sold them at the yard sale for $60 for the pair! We also had an old wood Lane table that we retrieved from the dumb at our old apartment complex *many* years ago. Painted it, added new knobs and sold it for $35. It's amazing what paint can do! I know some wondered why I was going through so much trouble to fix up pieces that I didn't intend to keep. It wasn't just to get top dollar for them, but the thought of sending out these pieces without first bringing them to their full potential just killed me! I'm weird, I know.
Our house was SO trashed during the yardsale though. The books that we took out of the hutch we sold were everywhere, the kids had spilled lemonade mix all over the floor, everything just seemed so dirty! And wouldn't you know, just like always, someones kid at the yardsale needed to use the bathroom. I knew it would happen, lol!
