A Glimpse of Spring + Family Day
Wow - thank you all so much for your nice comments about the penguin cake I made back in December! It really was so much fun, but I think it will be a *long* time before I do another!
And thank you for your continued patience with me and my scant blog entries. This is just the way it is in the winter for me. I slooooooow down and basically just take a long winter break. Needless to say, I'm really looking forward to spring.
Hubs brought me some lovely flowers last week and I couldn't help but to start getting excited about springs upcoming arrival. It motivated me to spruce the place up a bit (well, whatever one can do while living in a torn apart fixer, anyway). We recently celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary and as part of the "celebrating", I made a huge turkey dinner for our family day. So it was nice having the place come a live and seem a little spring like, especially on our special day. The weather was unusually warm, too - in the mid-60's that day!
Here are a few shots one little vignette...Come on spring!
Oh, and just for fun...here is the turkey spread from that night. We're *still* eating leftovers a week later! I think I was most excited about the rolls - I found an awesome recipe that I'll try to share soon. I LOVE my bread machine (see it below on the cooler?). Even though it basically just kneaded the roll ingredients together, it saves me so much time. And for loaves of bread, I just love how it does everything, baking and all. Wouldn't trade it for anything!
I put the girls in charge of decorating and setting the table. They did a great job, don't you think?!
There are still a few snowflakes hanging from our ceiling from our party in December. The kids wanted to leave them up, but I'm slowly, one by one, pulling them down:) We made about a hundred of them - can you imagine!
I hope everyone has a great week!

Oh, yellow tulips and daisies! I never would have thought to combine them--they look so wonderful!
Happy anniversary to you and your DH! I can sympathize with your winter "slow-down," only mine happens in the summer. It gets hot and humid and I just stop moving, LOL.
Happy Anniversary Kim! I didn't realize your anniversary was in Feb....ours in next month.
We too have had a few glimpses of spring with 60s weather.
The flowers are lovely! Glad you enjoyed your anniversary! Wishing you many more happy years to come. =)

Hi I happened on to your site and love it! I have been looking everywhere for a robin egg blue paint and have many samples on my wall but not one is the "right" one. I am wondering if you could tell me the name of your robin egg blue? Also the red for the cupboards? Absolulty love them- I am a red fan and boy those cupboards look great?
Hi it's me again, looking for the Robin Egg blue color, and the red!! I just signed in under a google acct.!
Hi Jen!
Thank you for visiting my blog and dropping me a note - I love "meeting" my visitors!
I actually mixed the robin's egg blue myself. I had a couple of Martha Stewart shades of green and blue on hand, plus some white and a little black, and I just mixed until I found the shade I was looking for. I painted a sample and had it color matched at Lowes and it was perfect! I'll give you the formula/code that is printed on the top of the can and hopefully they will be able to mix it for you, too. Keep in mind that every paint mixing machine at hardware stores is slightly different - they don't all have the exact calibration, even within the same store. So your color may not be *exactly* what my color is, but really close. Also, if you have paint mixed on one machine and need to go back for more, make sure they use the same machine.
This is what it says at the top of my can:
Manual Dispense
107-17.5
101-13
103-10.5
Valspar Eggshell Base 1
As for the red, I posted just this morning on my new FAQ page about this...feel free to check it out here! If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to help!
Have a great day, Jen, and thanks again for visiting!
~Kim
