Peppermint Tea, Wax Cake, and a Primer Green Dining Room
Yum. While I can actually taste the hot peppermint tea, the sweet aroma is coming from a nearby candle that both looks and smells like a cake. That's pure genius, I tell you.
Our winter break wasn't totally lost on plumbing problems and illness. We *did* get quite a bit acomplished, which included getting the place whipped back into a pretty decent state for a house that's being remodeled. I have a few more toys and clothing items to sort, but all in all I'm quite pleased with my "mundane chore" accomplishments this week. Now we can continue on with our remodeling projects without tripping over everything that's been slowly piling up around us.
Another project behind us is the priming of the dining room and kitchen. The primer is about two or three shades darker than the color I've chosen, but it still looks pretty ok for primer! You can see more dining photos, including a closeup of the stencil work, in my new photo gallery.
Since I'm pretty much the Queen of Thrift, lol, I've also added another new section to the site called "Thrifty Finds/Cottage Treasures" (or just 'Thrifty Cottage Finds' for short...)This is just a gallery of treasures I find when I go out bargain hunting. I think it just helps to prove that you don't have to have a lot of money to decorate your space and that *new* and *expensive* isn't necessarily always better. The link to this gallery is in the right hand column as well.
Have a great day, everyone!

Absolutely beautiful, Kim! :)
I love the photos...and your thrifty cottage finds are breath-taking. It takes a good idea to see past a lot of the junk at yard sales/rummage sales and find the treasure. You've definitely got what it takes! Hurray!
Thank you, Bev:) Half the thrill is just finding the nice pieces in all the junk. It literally feels like I've found a treasure, lol. A few months back I bought a domain name for a future business that would allow me to buy, fix up, and resell nifty pieces like these. I've been collecting stuff for almost a year now but haven't had the time to work on any of it. I can't wait though because bringing life to objects to things with potential is a real passion of mine. (Thus the reason we bought this plain old house, hehe)
What a neat idea! Innovative to a tee! Let me know how it goes if you ever start it up...I'd be a customer, I'm sure. ;)
You've had some lovely finds. Since I'm not too far from you geographically, I would love to hear, if you are willing to share, some of the places you frequent.
You might also enjoy the blog of a friend of mine, which she writes mostly about staying frugal and thrifty.

I'll be sure to let you know when things get rolling, Bev! Who knows when it will be, though, considering all the house projects we have going on, hehe!
Jordana, I just shop our local Goodwill here (I forgot if you knew which town I'm from..if not, email me...) and the roadside place, I'm not even sure what their name is. It's just a couple of middle aged men who bring stuff in everday. Most of the time they don't have anything worth bringing home, but sometimes they do. It's here local, too, on M'boro Rd on the right, just a ways past out local K-mart shopping plaza (headed toward M'boro). They have a couple of canopies that they've set up outside to put things under. The other place I've been to is in M'boro. It's called All Things Possible Bargain Center
and it's on 352 W Northfield Blvd. I've only been there twice. The first time I went I found a lot of things, the next time nothing. Hope this helps:)
