The Great Remodeling Misadventures
Daily I think to myself, "What have we gotten ourselves into?". There are a lot of projects going on here and they whole thing has been such a learning process. Since the very beginning, when we started by replacing our roof, we had got our first clues that this wasn't going to be easy. We hired someone to replace our roof, but we bought all of the material. We made a trip down to Chattanooga to buy the roofing tile, only to discover when we got back that we were given two different colors of tile! Ugh, so back to Chattanooga Jeff went.
Let's see, after we installed our new tub, weeks later we finally began adding the tile to the tub surround. Unfortunately, it didn't take us too long to discover that our tub was very unlevel, which was causing major problems with our tile installation. Jeff thought that maybe we could just fill in the huge gap created between the tub and bottom row of tile, but the gap was huge- almost 3/4 of an inch in one corner! So.....down came all of the tile and down came the concrete backboard. We needed to completely level the tub in order for the tile to go in correctly. It's finally all level now, but we've yet to put any more tile up. We installed the new tub at the end of November and our poor bathroom has been torn apart ever since. For the last several weekends, we've wanted to work on the tile, but all of us have been taking turns being sick, which makes it hard to spend hours on a project. *sigh*
Last weekend, we bought our new fridge. After spending a lot of time going from store to store comparing prices, we finally found *the* one. We got a great deal on it because we bought it at a Sears scratch and dent store. Any imperfections that we found on the brand new fridge were very minor and would be hidden completely by walls. BUT, when the fridge was being brought into the house, the freezer door banged into something and got a nasty dent and scratch. I was so disappointed. Being the completely detailed person that I am, which drives others and ME nuts sometimes, lol, I knew that we would have to send the fridge back, which we were told that we could do if we sent it back within 30 days. So the next day, Jeff went and picked up another new fridge and called Jason over to unload it. It was installed without a hitch! No dents or scratches!!!!
And then there is the issue of our door and window trim. Poor Jeff. We are both so frustrated because our trim is being repeatedly cut too short for one side of our living room window. Jeff has measured four or five different times and each time, the trim ends up being too short. I picked out some of the pricier window trim because I thought it was pretty and because we don't have that many windows. So that means we've spent $60 on several pieces of trim (for one side of our window) that we just can't seem to get cut correctly. So frustrating!
I really don't want to dwell on the negative, but it's always fun to go back read about past (mis) adventures. So I thought I'd start this entry and keep adding what we're up to as far as our remodeling projects go. I will be adding some happy adventures, too:)

Oh We sooo feel your pain. We are just in the begining stages of this little cottage of ours. We bought a small house in the mid west that was built around 1939 and then added on to in the years that went by. It has sat empty for about four or more years so we got it fairly cheap. But it needs a complete remodel inside. We are living in two rooms in the back for now as we get the rest of the house going. Check out our blog and you will soon see the work in progress.
