Update!
Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears....
Okay...maybe you Romans and countrymen have better things to do, but big happy hellos to all my dear friends.
Things have been pretty busy here for the last couple of weeks - just too busy to sit down and write. But it's been a happy and productive type of busy. Our new tub is installed (still waiting for our *walls* to be put up, lol!) and I'm very happy with it. I can't believe how tiny our other tub looked when it was removed. Tiny and grungy - it was nearly 30 years old and had seen better days. Click here to see the newly installed tub sans wall surround, lol.
I was very busy for a solid week creating invitations to an upcoming housewarming party I'm throwing for Amanda (Eese's sis). It was so-much-fun hand making the invites - the came out beautifully...very cheerful and colorful. And I had tons of material leftover and I just *had* to create something with the beautiful paper that was left. I really love some of the artwork created by the artist Wassily Kandinsky. So I created a couple of Kandinsky inspired pieces of art using colorful cardstock paper. It was time consuming but a lot of fun. I plan to do at least one more of these to become part of my "White" series. Notice the single white rectangle in each piece? This series is a celebration of individuality. After all, aren't we all truly unique?
This last weekend, we enjoyed a fun trip to the Nashville Flea Market. It has been years since I've been. I had *so* much fun! The flea market is my kind of place. It's a place where you can go and hunt and dig and bargain for one of a kind and often very old items. Since we are working on our bathroom and living room at this time, my purchases were limited to things that we could use in those rooms. I actually bought furniture for our tiny little bathroom, lol. We found a vendor from Atlanta who actually goes into really old houses that are being torn down and makes furniture out of the old housing materials. Such a cool concept! I have a fascination with old things so as you can imagine, I'm very excited about finding this resource. We bought a tall cabinet with open shelving for the bathroom. The sides are made of old shutters and the back is old beadboard...the shelves are just old pieces of wood that you can tell have been painted numerous times. We were looking for an entertainment unit for all of Jeff's "toys" in the living room and found a piece that we loved, but it wasn't quite wide enough and it didn't have doors. But this vendor custom makes furniture, so we put our order in for a unit that would work for us. We'll pick it up in about three weeks when the flea market comes around again. AND I've been searching high and low for an old farm table for our dining room. My glasstop table has got to go...it doesn't really suit my taste anymore and it's such a pain to keep clean. Those old farm tables are *very* expensive and kind of hard to come by. But I was extremely excited to find that this vendor makes farm tables, too...he uses old pine flooring for the tops and old balusters for the legs. He'll make them any length you specify. So now I know where to get my table! I'm planning on just scouring the flea market for wooden chairs. They can all be different. But that's a project for the spring.
I also found a fabric vendor that sells top quality decorator fabrics very inexpensivly. We're talking $6 a yard and just $10 a yard for dupioni silk. I'm actually thinking about going with silk for our curtains...long billowing colorful panels would be pretty I think. I am very eclectic and love mixing old and distressed with modern and clean. Nearly all the furniture in our living room is and will be white (except for our seating), so having the bold colors on the wall with a pop of color around the windows will be very cheerful and refreshing. Now that I know the wall colors, I'm now considering what colors of fabrics to use for the windows, throw pillows, etc. Lol, any of the colors in the art above would work, so I have a lot of thinking to do.
Oh, speaking of white furniture, I found some much needed end tables for the living room at the flea market. They are French Provencial in design and have been painted white and distressed. Jeff is thrilled to now have somewhere to put his remote controls and drinks!
I feel like I'm such a designer at heart...it is my passion and a much needed creative outlet for me. So this is what I've been up to lately, lol. I guess it's just what I do.
Love you all and will catch up with you and your journals soon!
